Comcast probably has the most famous “bundle” packaging with their Xfinity Triple Play TV/Internet/Voice offering.  But whether you subscribe to Comcast, AT&T, DirecTV or Dish Network, the following principles apply to each to some degree.

Bundling your services from a single provider does create savings, and is a great approach overall, but even with that a typical monthly bill can still be $150+.  A Comcast invoice generally contains three major line items

1.  Bundled services

2.  Additional TV services

3.  Internet services

The first item makes up the majority of the cost, and is available in a variety of combinations/packages defined by features such as HD programming, Starz/HBO type movie channels, basic Internet and voice service, etc.  It’s reasonable that package prices increase with high-performance or expanded services, but what’s surprising is that Comcast very regularly changes package pricing or offers promotions.  This leads to Savings Idea #1:

Make it a point to call Comcast at least annually (every 6 months is not a bad idea) to check for price changes and promotions.  If you haven’t done this for a long time you may find you are paying $20, $30 or more per month than you should!

The second item covers the additional monthly fee for DVR services.  Currently Comcast charges $8/month for each HD cable receiver supplied with integrated digital video recording.  At this time, we believe this is the best approach to reliable and easy-to-use program recording.

The third item covers the cost of Internet modem rental, currently $7/month for Comcast.  The Internet modem must be supplied by Comcast if you receive both High-Speed Internet and Telephone service. If this is the case, then your only option is to rent the equipment.  However, if you are among those dropping home wired phone service, and relying on cellular, this leads to Savings Idea #2:

Consider purchasing an Internet modem.  FortiFi can provide and install the latest High-Speed cable modem that will pay for itself in about a year using the previously paid monthly rental fee

It does take a little time and effort, but can result in considerable savings!
